Some positive news from the Prime Minister last we

Some positive news from the Prime Minister last week accompanied by some much needed sun and warmer weather, has got us all feeling hopeful for a more normal summer. 😎☀️

Especially the equestrians among us. You may be considering getting back onboard horses who may be young and/or a little fresh after a winter break. Lots of you will be looking forward to clinics, xc schooling, farm riding and competing. 🏇

I just have a favour to ask all of you. Please remember that it is not over yet. By all means enjoy your horses (as long as permitted by Covid rules) but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, be safe.

-ALWAYS wear a hat.

-Take extra precautions if necessary (e.g. a neck strap, a person on the ground, lunge first)

-Check all of your equipment for signs of wear and damage.

I have a blog post on my website that can guide you with what to look for. I also offer tack safety checks for local yards (if you’re not in the Hertfordshire area I’m sure your local saddler would be happy to do the same.)
If we tell you something needs fixing, it’s because we care about the safety of you and your horse!

Happy Friday!

Anyone else on a total high this morning?
Over the past few weeks the signs of spring have been slowly creeping up. Now i’m sat in my workshop in a t-shirt, listening to the birds singing while sunshine blazes through my window. On top of that, we’ve FINALLY been given some news that things will HOPEFULLY be getting back to normal.

It’s just such perfect timing, who knew the light at the end of the tunnel would be so literal.

(I’m sure we’ll have snow or rainstorms or something next week to keep us all grounded.)

Just posted this red stitched belt off to its new home. It’s one of the first items I’ve made with the new leather and I’ve got to say, so far I’m loving it!

You can tell I’m not a pro photographer but at least it shows how shiny the buckle is 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Tool Tuesday So this tool actually has many names

Tool Tuesday

So this tool actually has many names, but I know it as a “Masher.” It’s primarily used when flocking a saddle. In simple terms, you use it to “whack the living daylights” out of the saddle panel to help compress the wool down and reduce bumps.
I also use mine when I’m folding leather to help flatten the turn.

Typically mashers are made from wood, aluminium or brass. As with every tool, different people will have different preferences when it comes to their masher. I found the perfect masher while studying at the saddlery training centre, the weight and balance was just right and it seemed to fit my hand exactly. Honestly it was love 😍
Sadly despite years of begging, my tutor refused to give/gift/sell it to me and actually said if it ever goes missing I’m the first person who is being interrogated. Luckily last year I bought this one from retired saddler last year and although we don’t have quite the same connection, it’s doing a grand job.
